It is not about fighting depression, combating stress, provoking carelessness or developing artificial bravery. In fact, it is much more about taste, style and aesthetics. A good liquor heightens your spirit and improve your mood and the way you feel not because of the alcohol content, but thanks to its fine, exquisite taste bouquet. A well-chosen drink can also enhance the taste of any food and make it play in your mouth in dozens of various taste nuances. Visit a reputable liquor storeand pick several bottles for several different occasions to go with several different kinds of food or with no food at all. Some drinks are absolutely “self-sufficient”, some require a special little snack to bring out their taste, some are superb as ingredients of a cocktail. As for cocktails, they give you a chance to impress your guests not only with a striking manifold taste, but also with the looks: a cocktail glass with layers of carefully selected drinks of various colours cannot leave one indifferent. If you are not yet experienced enough in mixing, enjoy store-bought drinks with a special touch like 3 Olives Mango Flavored Vodka.

Coffee Cups

I have a dotty old uncle who lives alone and drinks his coffee right out of the coffee pot. He doesn't bother to pour his coffee into a cup...maybe washing a coffee cup just makes more work...who knows?

Most people, however, prefer to drink their coffee out of a coffee cup or a coffee mug. It is the civilized thing to do.

When people buy place settings of fine china of just a set of everyday dishes, the thing that determines their choice is the shape and size of the cup. After all, plates, bread plates, soup or cereal bowls, saucers, and other pieces in a place setting or set of dishes are all pretty much the same. They may come in varying sizes and the patterns are different, but still they are all basically the same design. Only the cups are different. The size and shape of the cup and the handles on the cups is most often the determining factor is the selection of dinner ware.

There are different coffee cups for serving different coffees, as well. Most "regular" coffee cups hold between 6 and 8 ounces of coffee. But there are demitasse cups that only hold between 2 and 4 ounces and big coffee mugs that hold up to 20 ounces. Latte coffee cups must be large enough to hold the frothy milk.

Coffee cups can be purchased separately, or as part of a set of dishes or a piece in a place setting of china. Coffee cups don't all have handles either. There are double-walled cups without handles that are used to serve espresso or cappuccino.

The thickness of the wall of the coffee cup is the determining factor of how long coffee will stay hot in a coffee cup. Remember those old thick-walled white cups of roadside coffee house fame? Coffee would stay hot in those things all the way through the eating of a meal and beyond. On the other hand, coffee in a delicate fine china cup will only stay hot a very few minutes.

Setting Up A Coffee Shop

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world.

When you walk past a coffee shop the aroma is very tempting and can lure you inside. Setting up the atmosphere to attract the customers from outside is an important start to the process of getting a successful and rewarding business.

Planning

Having a good business plan will go a long way towards being successful in business. It is not the magic that ensures success, but it can help to ensure that you are on the right track when starting out. Plan properly and get the advice that can help you set up correctly. Without a plan you can easily miss vital stages and this can be heartbreaking when the chips are down and you haven't done your homework. Competition is another area that you may need to look at seriously. Look around for other sellers of the coffee products especially look at businesses other than coffee shops that may have a little cafe bar selling one particular product.

Suppliers

Get your suppliers right early and ensure that they can deliver to you the right products at the right time. The suppliers are critical as no products readily available at your shop and you have nothing to sell. Customers won't come back if they get a bad experience and you quite often only get on chance to be the best in the business. Any slackness and you will lose out badly. There is a chance that bad service spoken by word of mouth can become detrimental to you business. It hard enough just to start a business without having to fix bad service and delivery.

Product

Test your product and get to know it. When a customer comes in and asks for a recommendation, you can truthfully give them one and a reason why. This will give you a better chance of selling the product. Dont' be afraid to specialise in something as it can become a unique selling item and may become the main drawcard of the business. Have good quality products and don't skimp just to save a few dollars. Customers want good value for their money and you should always strive to deliver this.

Caffeine and Headaches

Caffeine is one of the most consumed substances of all times. Through the years, people have consciously and unconsciously taken caffeine in the form of coffee, tea, softdrinks and other colas.

Caffeine intake has rapidly become popular that every now and then, critics and health experts have constantly warned about it. A number of health professionals insist that the substance can do harm to the body.

The first blow to the intake of caffeine is the claims that it induces addiction. Thus, many people seem to be pretty hooked up at drinking softdrinks and coffee.

Moreover, people should be aware about the benefits and detriments of taking caffeine.

Caffeine headaches

Caffeine has been found to cause headaches and the claims that the substances causes addiction is linked to this assertion. The idea that what is called as 'weekend headaches' are caused by caffeine is linked to the addiction allegation against the substance.

Experts believe that weekend headaches come as office buffs, who become used to consuming cups and glasses of coffee and sodas everyday in the morning and during breaks, suddenly stop taking caffeine during weekends. Usually, workers sleep and take rest during weekends, so they are not drinking coffee or sodas to be awake.

The migraine triggered by such a cause can be alleviated by taking caffeine. Quitters to caffeine intake also suffer headaches as a form of withdrawal symptom to the allegedly addictive caffeine.

Just like when smokers suddenly quit smoking, caffeine consumers also experience severe or even mild effects on health.

Moreover, too much intake of caffeine may also cause intense stress, especially when the person significantly lacks sleep and proper nutrition. Such stress can lower the body's resistance to the usual causes of migraines, making the person suffer occasional, and eventually, regular episodes of headaches.

Stimulant

You may probably heard from experts that caffeine is an effective stimulant, a group of substances that raise heart beats and makes people awake. Stimulants help people combat sleepiness within a few hours after intake.

Thus, that explains why you feel very much awake and invigorated after drinking that cup of coffee in the morning. Softdrinks also produce a different kick within you. People then take caffeine whenever they need to stay awake during office hours or during over time sessions at work.

Caffeine should not be taken if you are about to sleep or if you have been encountering difficulties in inducing sleep. You may notice that even the aroma of the coffee can almost invigorate you.

Caffeine as headache treatment

It can almost be confusing, but did you know that if caffeine can cause certain types of headaches, it can also help treat headaches? How dos it work?

Migraines are caused by enlarging blood vessels that affect the nerves around them. These nerves then trigger the sensory of the head, producing headaches.

Caffeine works by constricting the blood vessels, making those vessels return to normal and healthy sizes. You may prove this when you encounter a minor headache.

Notice that at least about 30 minutes after you have taken coffee or colas during an episode of headache, you may feel relief.

In other cases, certain medications need the help of caffeine so those treatments can be utilized appropriately by the body. There are various kinds of drugs that are manufactured with added caffeine for them to be effective.

Examples of such drugs are Tylenols, Florinol, Cafergot, Excedrin and Dristan.

Simple over the counter medicines also become more potent when taken with softdrinks or coffees.

Caffeine is indeed a wonderful substance. They may be bad or good, depending on how your body utilizes them and how you take them. Everything should be taken in moderation though. Experts believe that about two to three cups of coffee can still be happy. Anything more than that can lead to addiction and excessive caffeine intake.

Caffeine is certainly a good subject for discussion over a cup of coffee. You may benefit or be harmed by it. Just recognize the fact that as a stimulant, take it to invigorate your energy. Never take it on empty stomach though.

That can be the reason why your grandma always has cookies when serving coffee or tea.

Green Tea Caffeine

As a long time lover of green tea, I immensely enjoy the many different types, flavors, and awesome health benefits of green tea. Even...the health benefit of the caffeine in green tea. Yes caffeine! Now I know there's a lot of talk right now about caffeine and all the harmful side effects it can have. And it's true, caffeine can have negative side effects depending on how much of it you consume. But keep reading and you'll get a taste (no pun intended) of what the caffeine in a cup of green tea actually does for you.

Now this may be hard to believe, but studies have shown that moderate caffeine consumption has been found to be good for your health. Caffeine can make you feel great by giving you an energy boost, uplifting your mood and accelerating your heart beat.

But the problem is that most people consume way too much of it, which leads to problems like feeling jittery, nervous, anxious, depressed, chronic muscle tension, drowsiness, sleepless nights, and a host of other problems.

A cup of coffee contains 85-150 milligrams of caffeine and a can of soda contains anywhere from 40-80 or even more milligrams. The daily recommended caffeine intake is 200 milligrams. So by drinking 2 or more cups of coffee or cans of soda, you've gone over your limit and may start to feel some of the negative effects of caffeine.

Now... a cup of green tea averages only 8 to 35 milligrams of caffeine. Even by drinking 4-8 cups of green tea you will not have reached your daily recommended caffeine intake! That is great news! As a side note - if you're wondering about the caffeine content of black tea, unfortunately it is higher - black tea contains about twice as much caffeine as green tea.

The caffeine level in a cup of green tea is just right to help you feel energized, alert, and refreshed, but won't leave you feeling as jittery and anxious as a cup of coffee or soda may.

So even though caffeine really can have a negative effect on your health according to your consumption level; you may want to try an experiment and replace green tea for your coffee and soda intake for awhile, and see if you don't feel a whole lot better (not to mention you'll be enjoying all the other health benefits that come from drinking green tea.)

Coffee Beans Come in Many Forms and Tastes

Coffee beans come in many forms and tastes so thus coffee makers in varying shape and size come with different features. There are automatic coffee machines to brew coffee how you want it when you want it.

There is a coffee machine that will match one's taste. Whether one like espresso, cappuccino, latte, or simple brewed coffee, all is possible with a touch of a button. Coffee lovers can invest for a good coffee machine which can last for decades if well maintained. It is not really difficult to maintain these automatic coffee machines, for the steps can be as simple as turning them off when not in use. They can also be cleaned by dripping a solution of water and vinegar in one cycle at least once a month.

These machines can also save you time when you are in a hurry to work or busy attending to the needs of you family. Everything can be set to brew for itself and everyone can enjoy a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee. The options vary when it comes to choosing a coffee maker. The following stand out from the rest and is the common choice of the most discerning coffee lovers:

Jura Capresso makes authentic cappuccino, lattes, espressos, and hot chocolate. This is a Swiss made coffee machine which is popular to coffee enthusiast all over the world. The company is the maker of innovative coffee centers known for their beautiful design, sophistication, and ease of use.

Jura Capresso ensures fresh coffee every time with its high pressure brewing method which creates a particular taste depending on the coffee lovers' desires. This coffee center has a sixty second standard when it comes to grinding, tamping, and brewing coffee. It also takes only minute to clean the machine.

Espresso machines on the other hand make the traditional Italian espresso coffee. This process is very specific. Espresso is seven to ten grams of grounded coffee densely packed in a specific amount of force plus 200 degree Fahrenheit water. There are also several designs of espresso machines. It can be piston driven which makes use of a lever system to pressurize the hot water sipping it to the coffee. Pump driven machines are a refinement where a motor pumps the machine so brewing can be completed. After trying many products, I discovered the Senseo coffee machine. This brewing system uses Senseo coffee pods, which brew quickly without leaving any mess to clean up. I have been very impressed with this product and I recommend this to anyone looking for a new way to brew their coffee. The main blends available are mild, medium, mocha and dark roast. A decaffeinated blend is also available. The main benefit of using coffee pods is the ability to brew a high quality coffee in about 30 seconds. This helped me greatly because I was able make a cup of coffee on my way out of the house in the morning.

Nutrition Facts For Coffee

There's not much else in coffee apart from caffeine yet we all drink it and take little time to know where it grows, how it's produced and how it affects our brains and bodies. Surely something this good must be bad for you. Au contraire! There is on-going scientific evidence that 2-4 cups of coffee a day (based on a 6oz serving) offers more health benefits than you may know. Earlier studies have often clouded these benefits because of lifestyle associations such as smoking

1. Coffee is the #1 source of antioxidants, more than wine, chocolate or tea. Antioxidants can help prevent cancer and heart disease.

2. Coffee has a high level of soluble dietary fiber, more than wine or orange juice. Soluble dietary fiber helps lower total LDL (bad) cholesterol thereby reducing risk of heart disease and it also helps to manage blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. By helping insulin regulate blood sugar levels in the body, there is a significantly reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.

3. Further studies of coffee also strongly suggest that regular daily intake of coffee (i) lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease (ii) protects against chronic liver disease and gallstones (iii) may ward off colon cancer (iv) appears to have antidepressant features (v) has also been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

4. Drinking coffee prior to working out reduces post exercise muscle soreness by up to one half! Plus it improves physical stamina and reaction time. Overall, coffee boosts athletic endurance and physical performance.

5. Coffee improves short-term memory recall, as well as alertness and attention to the task at hand. Because a cup of coffee is absorbed in the bloodstream within 15min - 2hr, caffeine helps process information and boost logical reasoning. Safe driving is a direct beneficiary of coffee consumption.

When people slam coffee, it's usually because coffee is known to temporarily raise blood pressure. However while the previous generation of coffee drinkers were satisfied with a single serving of coffee, today's coffee consumer is addicted to a daily habit of drive-thru kiosks and super-sized 20oz+ cups of coffee, not to mention those delicious sweet treats. I might suggest that coffee isn't so much the problem as is the habitual effect of mega cups of java several times daily.

Just a fresh Cocktail

Despite the city becoming bigger and building its nightlife more for tourists, London is still packed to the brim with plenty of nightlife for locals and travelers. A little bit of caffeine is definitely left behind so if the package of green tea you have says it is free of all caffeine you will have to take that with a pinch of caffeine. Caffeine is a natural constituent in tea of any form including green tea.

To Have Or Not To Have Caffeine

Among the various types of tea available black tea is believed to be the richest in caffeine content. Green tea has a lesser amount of caffeine as compared to black tea but the percentage is definitely more than what is normally found in white tea. Coffee scores more than tea when it comes to the level of caffeine in it .It contains 30-50% more caffeine than tea does.

Smaller leaves on tea plants and tealeaves that have been subjected to longer period of fermentation are believed to be richer in caffeine. Tea is also a rich source of anti-oxidants that are so vital to the functioning of the human body. Some believe that the process of decaffeination of green tea destroys most of the naturally found, essential nutrients ultimately making it a beverage that serves only one purpose mostly that is, supply of some form of liquid to the body and the warm, refreshing feeling that the remaining constituents in the tea probably provide.

If you are one of those who cannot normally tolerate caffeine, but would still like to partake of the beneficial effects of green tea, it would be fair to warn you that decaffeinated green tea is not totally free of caffeine. Many doctors in Sacramento, including Christopher Freville recommend it would be wise to look for alternatives that probably have similar health benefits and avoid considering caffeine free green tea as a healthy option.

In fact you could consider other herbal beverages such as infusions instead. Contrary to popular belief herbal infusions beverages have nothing to do with tea. They are generally made of herbs and flowers and the extract, which is believed to have medicinal properties, can be brewed in a similar manner as tea bags.

If you are not caffeine intolerant and are just trying to cut down on your caffeine intake, you should definitely switch to caffeine free green tea. Your intake of caffeine is limited to the minute amount still left after the decaffeination and you still get to benefit from the multitude of health benefits that green tea boasts of.

Top 10 Caffeine-Related Health Problems

Cardiovascular Problems

Caffeine increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure, and can contribute to the development of heart disease. Both decaf and regular coffee increase your cholesterol and homocysteine, the biochemical that science has linked to increased risk for heart attack. Caffeine is also linked to coronary vasospasms, the cause for 20% of all fatal heart attacks which kill otherwise perfectly healthy people.
Stress

Caffeine stimulates the excretion of stress hormones which can produce increased levels of anxiety, irritability, muscular tension and pain, indigestion, insomnia, and decreased immunity. Increased levels of stress from caffeine can keep you from being able to make healthy responses to the normal daily stress everyone is subjected to in their lives.

Emotional Disturbances

Anxiety and irritability are hallmark mood disturbances associated with caffeine consumption, but equally important is depression and attention disorders. Depression may occur as part of the let down after the stimulant effects of caffeine wears off. It may also appear during the recovery period after quitting caffeine while the brain's chemistry is readjusted. Caffeine rather than increasing mental activity actually decreases blood flow to the brain by as much as 30% and negatively effects memory and mental performance.

Blood Sugar Swings

Diabetics and hypoglycemics should avoid caffeine because it stimulates a temporary surge in blood sugar which is then followed by an overproduction of insulin that causes a blood sugar crash within hours. If you're trying to loose weight, this rollercoaster will actually cause weight gain since insulin's message to the body is to store excess sugar as fat.

Gastrointestinal Problems

Many people experience a burning sensation in their stomach after drinking coffee because coffee increases the secretion of hydrochloric acid leading to an increased risk for ulcers. Coffee, including decaf, reduces the pressure on the valve between the esophagus and the stomach so that the highly acidic contents of the stomach pass up to the esophagus leading to heartburn and gastro-esophageal reflux disease. With America 's high consumption of coffee, its no wonder the best selling over-the-counter drugs are the so-called antacids.

Nutritional Deficiencies

Caffeine inhibits the absorption of some nutrients and causes the urinary excretion of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and trace minerals, all essential elements necessary for good health.
Male Health Problems

Male Health Issues

Coffee is an irritant to the urinary tract and bladder. It is also a diuretic that aggravates conditions associated with frequent urination. Eliminating coffee and caffeine often relieves symptoms associated with frequent urination due to enlarged prostate glands.

Dr. Milton Krisiloff, M.D. has found that in the majority of cases, men can significantly reduce their risk for urinary and prostate problems by making dietary changes which include eliminating coffee and caffeine.

Female Health Problems

Fibrocystic breast disease, PMS, osteoporosis, infertility problems, miscarriage, low birth weight infants, and menopausal problems such as hot flashes are all exacerbated by caffeine consumption. Women on birth control pills are particularly at risk since they have a decreased ability to detoxify caffeine.

Adrenal Exhaustion

Caffeine consumption leads to eventual adrenal exhaustion which can leave you vulnerable to a variety of health disorders related to inflammation, autoimmunity, and fatigue.
Aging

Many people find in their forties that they can no longer tolerate the same level of caffeine consumption as they could in their twenties and thirties. The production of DHEA, melatonin, and other vital hormones start to decline and caffeine speeds up that downhill drop. Caffeine dehydrates the body and contributes to the aging of the skin and kidneys. It has been shown to inhibit DNA repair and slow the ability of the liver to detoxify foreign toxins.

Exhausted Adrenal Glands

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. It causes the adrenal glands to secrete adrenaline, the hormone your body depends on in emergencies to elevate your heart rate, increase your respiration and blood pressure for a rapid flight-or-fight response. When you overuse stimulants, the adrenals become exhausted. If your caffeine sensitivity has diminished or you're one of those who claims you can drink 3 shots of espresso and go right to sleep, guess what? Your adrenals have given up responding. This means you have less resistance to stress, which leaves you vulnerable to health hazards such as environmental pollutants and disease pathogens

Severe Blood Sugar Swings

Caffeine forces the liver to release glycogen into the blood stream. The pancreas responds to the sudden rise in blood sugar by releasing insulin, the hormone which causes excess carbohydrates to be stored as fat. Within the span of an hour or two, the result is a sharp blood sugar drop resulting in a state of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). That's when you think it's time for another cup of coffee and the whole cycle starts up again.

Acid Imbalance

Over 208 acids in coffee can contribute to indigestion and a wide variety of health problems resulting from over-acidity associated with arthritic, rheumatic and skin irritations. Many people experience a burning sensation in their stomach after drinking coffee because coffee increases the secretion of acid in the stomach. Optimal health calls for an alkaline pH balance in the body.

Essential Mineral Depletion

Coffee inhibits the absorption of some nutrients and causes the urinary excretion of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and trace minerals, all essential elements necessary for good health. Women need to be concerned about osteoporosis as menopause sets in. Studies show that women who drink coffee have an increased incidence of osteoporosis compared to non-coffee drinkers. This gives your recipient more options and choices when it comes to the right gift for them. They can use a Visa gift card anywhere, at any store that accepts Visa credit card and can be used for nearly anything their heart desires, within the budgeted amount, of course.

These gift credit cards can be used for almost any purchase. This might include clothing, groceries, hotel reservations, gasoline, and so much more. Nowadays are various credit card offers out there. So, you would like to get the best one there is to help you manage your finances wisely. Here are some quick steps on how to compare credit card offers.

Before you can even compare credit card offers, you should identify the type of credit card that will suit your needs. The following are the types of credit cards you can choose from.

Prepaid & Debit Cards
Instant Approval Cards
Credit cards for Bad Credit
Business Credit Cards
Student Credit Cards
Airline Credit Cards
Cashback Credit Cards
Balance Transfer Credit Cards
Low Interest Credit Cards

More and more people are labouring under high-interest credit card debt every year.Getting a cheap credit card can help you avoid this rapid debt accumulation. An interest rate half of that 15% credit card would put the time to double your debt at ten years; much more importantly, if you keep making payments in the same amount you do on the 15% interest credit card you will pay off your principle-and this is the key to lowering your debt. With lower principle comes lower interest charges; this leads to faster principle repayment.

The great thing about Visa gift cards is that they are perfect for any occasion. You might consider giving a gift card for a graduation. If you know someone that is retiring and taking a much needed vacation, a gift credit card could be the ideal gift as it could be of use to them on their trip. It also makes great gifts for birthdays, Christmas, weddings, engagements, a new baby, or any occasion really. When you need a gift, these cards are easy to obtain and might just be the perfect gift.

Unlike traditional gift cards, gift credit cards do not confine the recipient to just one store. They can be used on anything they would like. This might include clothing, electronics, video games, shoes, food, gas or a vacation. You name it. It is possible.

Visa Gift Cards make awesome gifts for anyone, whether they live in the same house or across the country. They are universal gifts that can be used anywhere. Unlike gift cards, you had to make sure that you got a gift card for a store or outlet near where the person lived. All you have to do now is pop the card in the mail and there you have it. This is the perfect gift for anyone.

Green Tea and Weight Loss

Green tea has always been known to have several health benefits.A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition show that green tea extract can increase metabolism and fat oxidation of the body. The great thing about the weight loss benefit of green tea extracts is that it does not have any adverse side-effects. Unlike other herbal products like ephedra and prescription drugs for obesity, green tea extract does not increase the speed of heart rates or raise blood pressure. In this regard, green tea extract is an effective and safer alternative to other weight loss products which may cause harm to the user. Also you can Try oolong tea; Oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea, somewhere between a green and black tea. The fermentation time varies from country to country, but is significantly shorter than the fermentation period of black teas. Oolong teas also retain a large percentage of their natural anti-oxidants, making them a very healthy tea, as well. In particular, oolong tea is thought to be a very effective weight loss supplement.

Perfect web hosting

Nowadays, many web hosting companies offer hosting services that exceed the disk space needed for any given websites. Some people seeking caffeine intoxication resort to insufflation (snorting) of caffeine powder, usually finely crushed caffeine tablets. This induces a faster and more intense reaction. The symptoms of caffeine intoxication are not unlike overdoses of other stimulants. It may include restlessness, nervousness, excitement, insomnia, flushing of the face, increased urination, gastrointestinal disturbance, muscle twitching, a rambling flow of thought and speech, irritability, irregular or rapid heart beat, and psychomotor agitation. In cases of much larger overdoses mania, depression, lapses in judgment, disorientation, loss of social inhibition, delusions, hallucinations, psychosis, rhabdomyolysis, and death may occur.

In cases of extreme overdose, death can result. The median lethal dose (LD50) of caffeine is 192 milligrams per kilogram in rats. The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on weight and individual sensitivity and estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass, roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult taken within a limited timeframe that is dependent on half-life. Though achieving lethal dose with caffeine would be exceptionally difficult with regular coffee, there have been reported deaths from overdosing on caffeine pills, with serious symptoms of overdose requiring hospitalization occurring from as little as 2 grams of caffeine.Death typically occurs due to ventricular fibrillation brought about by effects of caffeine on the cardiovascular system.

Treatment of severe caffeine intoxication is generally supportive, providing treatment of the immediate symptoms, but if the patient has very high serum levels of caffeine then peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, or hemofiltration may be required.

18 Experts speak about caffeine

Most of coffee drinkers don't realize it, but their morning cups of coffee set their bodies up for a rollercoaster day of highs and lows, only to bottom out at the point of exhaustion. Just a few hours after consumption, when the artificial high dies down, many people may reach for more coffee or something sugary to get another lift, leading to daily fluctuations in energy and alertness, and possibly to eventual chronic adrenal exhaustion.

You probably don't drink as much coffee as I drank, but just one caffeinated drink – whether it's a soft drink, caffeinated tea or coffee – will put your body on the caffeine rollercoaster. When you consume caffeine, the drug begins its effects by initiating uncontrolled neuron firing in your brain, according to Stephen Cherniske in his book, Caffeine Blues. This excess neuron activity triggers your pituitary gland to secrete a hormone that tells your adrenal glands to produce adrenalin.

Adrenalin is what gives athletes that winning burst of energy and Good Samaritans the ability to rescue people by lifting cars. Adrenalin is also the source of our "fight-or-flight" response, which enabled our prehistoric ancestors to escape from saber-toothed tigers and other predators. By stimulating your adrenal glands to produce adrenalin, caffeine puts your body in this "fight-or-flight" state, which is useless while you're just sitting at your desk. When this adrenal high wears off later, you feel the drop in terms of fatigue, irritability, headache or confusion.

In other words, caffeine affects your body just like any drug. You start taking it slowly, but as your body develops a tolerance to it, you need more and more to feel the same effects. Eventually, your body reaches a point where it can't be without it; otherwise, you will start to experience withdrawal symptoms.

You may think that you don't drink nearly enough to become addicted to it, but you probably already are. "Careful research conducted by the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine shows that low to moderate caffeine intake (as little as one 14-ounce mug per day) can quickly produce withdrawal symptoms," writes Cherniske. Yes, caffeine is a drug, even though it's something that you ingested in your beloved chocolate bars and colas since early childhood.

18 Experts speak about caffeine

"Caffeine's immediate effects on your body"
It doesn't take a genius to see that there might be a downside to all of this neuron activity. In fact, uncontrolled neuron firing creates an emergency situation, which triggers the pituitary gland in the brain to secrete ACTH (adrenocorticotrophic hormone). ACTH tells the adrenal glands to pump out stress hormones—the next major side effect of caffeine.
Caffeine Blues By Stephen Cherniske MS, page 56

Within five minutes after you drink your morning coffee, the caffeine begins to stimulate your central nervous system, triggering the release of stress hormones in your body, causing a stress ("fight or flight" ) response. The stress hormones are useful if you need to prepare yourself to fight or flee a dangerous situation, but if you are simply sitting at your desk you may feel a short charge of alertness, quickly followed by feelings of agitation. Within the next hour or so, after the stress response dissipates, you will probably feel more tired and hungry. At these low-energy times, many people reach for another cup of coffee, or eat a snack that is often high in sugar to "pep up" and stay alert. However, both caffeine and sugar only give you temporary feelings of increased energy, which quickly dissipate. For some people, this cycle of low energy followed by an infusion of caffeine or food continues the entire day -- leaving them feeling exhausted and unable to focus by 3:00 p.m. because they are drained from the ups and downs in energy their body endured throughout the day.
Active Wellness By Gayle Reichler MS RD CDN, page 12

Among other things, it stimulates the production of adrenaline, one of the hormones secreted by the adrenal glands to help us in extreme emergency situations. Our adrenals evolved to give our early ancestors the extra strength and alertness needed to escape a saber tooth tiger attack, but we don't often need that much adrenaline these days. Like sugar, coffee constantly stimulates the production of adrenaline, putting excessive wear and tear on the adrenal glands. And let's not forget that green tea and black tea contain caffeine, and even decaf still contains some caffeine. If you're sensitive to caffeine it can keep you awake at night even if you haven't had any since noon. If you're suffering from insomnia, your best bet is to drink nonstimulating herbal teas such as chamomile or mint in the evening. If you need a boost in the afternoon, try a cup of ginseng tea.
Prescription Alternatives by Earl Mindell RPh PhD and Virginia Hopkins MA, page 388

Caffeine triggers a stress response that involves a surge in adrenal hormones and the classic fight-or-flight "emergency," affecting virtually every cell in the body.
Caffeine Blues By Stephen Cherniske MS, page 98

Everybody "knows" that caffeine makes you more alert and clearheaded. Think again. A cup of coffee gives you a wakeup jolt because it triggers a stress response. Your adrenal glands are prompted to kick out the same stress hormones that are released when you perceive an external threat or danger. Your muscles tense, your blood sugar elevates for extra energy, your pulse and respiration rates speed up, and your state of alertness increases so you're ready to wrestle with or run from environmental dangers. You may be only sitting at your table or desk drinking a cup of coffee, but your body doesn't know that. It's preparing for action.
The Memory Solution by Dr Julian Whitaker, page 261

Caffeine increases the stimulating neurohormone, noradrenaline, and reduces the calming neurotransmitter, serotonin.
The Crazy Makers by Carol Simontacchi, page 191

Caffeine also stimulates the production of norepinephrine, another stress hormone that acts directly on the brain and nervous system. Epinephrine and norepinephrine are responsible for increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, and that "emergency" feeling. In fact, the emergency is quite real. caffeine can trigger a classic fight-or-flight stress reaction with all of the results listed in Illustration.
Caffeine Blues By Stephen Cherniske MS, page 57

I particularly recommend that you avoid caffeine. What caffeine actually does is set off a stress response. It stimulates your adrenal glands to make epinephrine and norepinephrine—the same stress hormones that are produced in response to any stressor. This sets the stress response in motion, causing tense muscles, elevated blood sugar, and increased pulse and respiration. You may feel mentally sharper because your brain is high on adrenaline. It's ready to rumble. One cup of coffee for most people isn't damaging. But as you may recall from our discussion of the three stages of the stress response, if stress hormones remain elevated, the body is thrown into a state of chronic stress. By sipping on coffee, tea, or caffeinated soda all day long, you are forcing your adrenal glands to continue to pump out stress hormones.
The Memory Solution by Dr Julian Whitaker, page 165

Caffeine works by mimicking a hormone that tells the adrenal glands to crank out more adrenaline. The adrenal glands think there is a stressful situation and that they are supposed to be making more adrenal hormone.
Herbal Defense by Ralph T Golan ND, page 280

A dosage of 50 to 100 mg caffeine, the amount in one cup of coffee, will produce a temporary increase in mental clarity and energy levels while simultaneously reducing drowsiness. It also improves muscular-coordinated work activity, such as typing. Through its CNS stimulation, caffeine increases brain activity; however, it also stimulates the cardiovascular system, raising blood pressure and heart rate. It generally speeds up our body by increasing our basal metabolic rate (BMR), which burns more calories. Initially, caffeine may lower blood sugar; however, this can lead to increased hunger or cravings for sweets. After adrenal stimulation, blood sugar rises again. Caffeine also increases respiratory rates, and for people with tight airways, it can open breathing passages. Caffeine is also a diuretic and a mild laxative.
The New Detox Diet by Elson M Haas MD, page 30

Caffeine and nicotine overstimulate the adrenal glands. When these substances, other stressors, and a generally poor diet are combined, the adrenals can enter into a state of emergency. They become depleted of important vitamins, such as B-complex vitamins and vitamin C.
Complete Encyclopedia Of Natural Healing by Gary Null PhD, page 233

Although we think of caffeine in coffee as the "wake-me-up" chemical, chronic use of it may cause fatigue, headache, moodiness, and depression in some people. Because caffeine boosts energy through increasing the production of ATP, the basic unit of energy production in your body, one school of thought suggests that chronically stimulating this system may deplete it, sort of like overworking the soil in farmland. Recommendation: If you are a caffeine junkie (more than 3 cups of coffee a day) and can't get through the day without your coffee fix, you may be promoting your fatigue with caffeine and need a rest period. Go slowly with your reduction to zero caffeine to avoid developing overwhelming sleepiness and a bad headache.
Doctors Complete Guide Vitamins Minerals by Mary D Eades MD, page 324

Caffeine can have a detrimental effect on blood sugar. When caffeine is ingested, the nervous system is stimulated. Adrenaline is released and, in turn, the liver begins to emit stored blood sugar. Insulin is then released, and blood sugar drops below normal—a common seizure trigger for people with epilepsy. Caffeine can also constrict blood vessels in the brain. It is important for people with epilepsy to know that caffeine can be an ingredient in medications, including some antihistamines and decongestants.
Disease Prevention And Treatment by Life Extension Foundation, page 739

For an optimal response to our plan, we recommend eliminating or sharply reducing your caffeine intake. Caffeine raises levels of adrenaline, causes overexcitation, increases stress, and impairs the relaxation response. It's hard to be at peace when you're revved up on caffeine.
Ultraprevention by Mark Hyman MD and Mark Liponis MD, page 241

Watch out for coffee. The caffeine in coffee can upset blood-sugar levels, leaving you fatigued and longing for a quick-pick-me-up snack. Limit coffee to two cups a day.
Food & Mood By Elizabeth Somer MA RD, page 57

Caffeine, in fact, is the most widely used cognitive-enhancement product in our society. Numerous tests have proved that, when used in moderate amounts, caffeine boosts concentration and alertness. Because it is a stimulant, it increases output of adrenaline, and can temporarily improve memory and mood.
Brain Longevity by Dharma Singh Khalsa M.D. with Cameron Stauth, page 266

Caffeine acts directly upon the central nervous system. It brings about an almost immediate sense of clearer thought and lessens fatigue. It also stimulates the release of stored sugar from the liver, which accounts for the "lift" coffee, cola, and chocolate give. The word comes from the French term for coffee, café.[2] Caffeine is also called guaranine when found in guarana, mateine when found in mate, and theine when found in tea; all these names are considered chemical synonyms for the same chemical compound.

Caffeine is completely absorbed by the stomach and small intestine within 45 minutes of ingestion. After ingestion it is distributed throughout all tissues of the body and is eliminated by first-order kinetics.

The half-life of caffeine—the time required for the body to eliminate one-half of the total amount of caffeine consumed at a given time—varies widely among individuals according to such factors as age, liver function, pregnancy, some concurrent medications, and the level of enzymes in the liver needed for caffeine metabolism. In healthy adults, caffeine's half-life is approximately 3–4 hours. In women taking oral contraceptives this is increased to 5–10 hours, and in pregnant women the half-life is roughly 9–11 hours.Caffeine can accumulate in individuals with severe liver disease when its half-life can increase to 96 hours. In infants and young children, the half-life may be longer than in adults; half-life in a newborn baby may be as long as 30 hours. Other factors such as smoking can shorten caffeine's half-life.

Caffeine is metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 oxidase enzyme system (specifically, the 1A2 isozyme) into three metabolic dimethylxanthines, which each have their own effects on the body:

* Paraxanthine (84%): Has the effect of increasing lipolysis, leading to elevated glycerol and free fatty acid levels in the blood plasma.
* Theobromine (12%): Dilates blood vessels and increases urine volume. Theobromine is also the principal alkaloid in cocoa, and therefore chocolate.
* Theophylline (4%): Relaxes smooth muscles of the bronchi, and is used to treat asthma. The therapeutic dose of theophylline, however, is many times greater than the levels attained from caffeine metabolism.

Source

Wikipedia
